Mixologist
Location: Upper Hill, Nairobi

Job Summary
Our client, a new and upcoming restaurant is seeking a creative, experienced, and customer
focused Mixologist to bring their bar operations to life.
The successful candidate will prepare and serve quality alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages,
provide excellent customer service, promote beverage sales, manage bar stock, and maintain a
clean and organized bar. The ideal candidate should be creative, sales-oriented, and able to work efficiently in a busy restaurant and catering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve cocktails, mocktails, wines, beers, spirits, juices, and other beverages.
- Follow approved recipes, measurements, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
- Create attractive signature cocktails and mocktails that complement the restaurant’s
menu. - Ensure beverages are prepared promptly, consistently, and according to customer
preferences. - Welcome customers and provide professional, attentive, and friendly bar service.
- Recommend suitable beverages based on customer preferences, meals, and occasions.
- Promote beverage specials, premium products, signature drinks, and available offers.
- Upsell wines, spirits, cocktails, bottle service, bar snacks, and other menu items.
- Maintain good knowledge of beverage brands, ingredients, garnishes, and preparation
techniques. - Set up the bar before service and ensure beverages, tools, ice, garnishes, and glassware
are available. - Keep the bar counter, equipment, glassware, preparation areas, and storage spaces clean
and organized. - Monitor bar stock and request replenishment before products run out.
- Receive, count, and record beverages and bar supplies delivered to the restaurant.
- Participate in stock counts and reconcile physical stock against sales and stock records.
- Control portions and minimize over-pouring, spillages, breakages, and beverage wastage.
- Report stock shortages, damaged products, expired items, and unusual stock variances.
- Enter customer orders and process payments accurately using the approved point-of-sale
system. - Record complimentary drinks, discounts, cancellations, wastage, and breakages as
required. - Ensure opened bottles, garnishes, mixers, and other ingredients are properly stored and
secured. - Monitor alcohol consumption and avoid serving underage or visibly intoxicated
customers. - Handle customer complaints and difficult situations calmly and professionally.
- Assist with beverage packages and bar setups for corporate events, parties, weddings, and
private functions. - Set up and operate mobile bars during banqueting, outdoor, and off-site catering events.
- Pack, transport, arrange, and account for beverages, bar tools, glassware, ice, and catering
supplies. - Complete bar opening and closing duties according to restaurant procedures.
- Follow hygiene, responsible alcohol service, safety, and customer service standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- Certification in Mixology and Bartending from a recognized institution or a related field
is highly preferred. - At least 2 years of experience as a mixologist in a bar set up is highly recommended.
- Strong knowledge of cocktail and mocktail preparation, wines, beers, spirits, garnishes,
and beverage presentation. - Good customer service, communication, sales, and upselling skills.
- Ability to create attractive and commercially appealing cocktails and mocktails.
- Experience in bar stock control, portion control, and point-of-sale systems.
- Knowledge of responsible alcohol service, hygiene, and safety standards.
- Honest, reliable, well groomed, and attentive to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during busy service periods.
- Ability to work productively both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be physically fit and able to stand for long hours.
- Willingness to work extended and late shifts, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Must be comfortable working in banqueting and outside catering setups.
- Must be able to carry beverage crates, bar equipment, and catering supplies when
supporting outside catering events. - Must be ready to attend a physical interview and practical skills assessment covering mixology expertise, bar setup and presentation.
